Mexico City is served by Mexico City International Airport (Benito Juárez International Airport, airport code MEX), one of the busiest and best-connected airports in Latin America.

United Airlines flies direct to Mexico City from several major U.S. gateways, including Houston, Denver, Chicago, New York, San Francisco, and Washington Dulles.

Copa Airlines connects through its hub in Panama City – one of the most extensively connected air hubs in the Americas – with direct service to dozens of cities across North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean.

Getting to the Venue

The conference will be held on the Tecnológico de Monterrey Mexico City campus, which sits in the Northern part of Tlalpan, in the south of the city. Most delegates will be traveling against the main flow of city traffic, which makes the trip easier than distances might suggest.

Public transit: Take Metro Line 2 to Taxqueña, then transfer to the Tren Ligero (light rail) and get off at Periférico station, about a two-minute walk from campus. Several RTP bus routes also run directly along Anillo Periférico near the university entrance.

By car or rideshare: Straightforward, particularly outside peak commuting hours. Parking lot available on campus.

Getting Around

Beyond the daily commute to campus, Mexico City's public transportation network is extensive, inexpensive, and easy to navigate.

The Metro covers the city with 12 color-coded lines and roughly 195 stations, making it the fastest option for longer crosstown trips.

The Metrobús runs express buses in dedicated lanes along major avenues like Reforma and Insurgentes. A single rechargeable transit card works across both systems, along with the city's bike-share program, Ecobici, which has heavy station coverage in Roma, Condesa, Juárez, Polanco, and the Centro.

Uber, Cabify, and DiDi all operate widely across the city and are a safer, easier option than hailing a taxi on the street. Traffic is heaviest between 7 and 9am and 6 and 9pm, so budget extra time if you're moving by car during those windows.

Explore the City

Mexico City is one of the most compelling urban environments on the planet – exactly the kind of place ICUH exists to study and celebrate. If your schedule allows it, we'd recommend building in at least a full week: enough time for the conference and still enough to get out into the city itself.

A few neighborhoods worth your time:

  • Roma Norte – Tree-lined streets, Art Deco architecture, and one of the city's densest concentrations of independent restaurants, cafes, and galleries.

  • Condesa – Similar Art Deco character to Roma Norte, built around Parque México, with a strong café and nightlife scene.

  • Coyoacán – Cobblestone streets and colonial architecture in one of the city's oldest neighborhoods, home to the Frida Kahlo Museum and lively weekend markets.

  • Centro Histórico – The historic heart of the city: the Zócalo, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Palacio de Bellas Artes, and a UNESCO World Heritage-listed core of museums and public space.
